  • Les lignes de fuite tracées par les horloges conduisent à une intersection qui peut représenter la mort.

  • L’horloge sans aiguilles: c’est le point central du document.

    • Sans aiguilles cette horloge ne peut pas nous situer dans le temps, ce qui peut avoir une double signification qui se rapproche de la mort (le temps = la mort) et de la liberté (plus de contrainte temps).

    • C’est la seule horloge surmontée d’un pic, qui peut évoquer le combat de la vie, l’action.

    • A noter que les aiguilles, lorsqu’elles sont présentes, donnent à l’inverse la notion du temps qui passe, et donc celle d’une mort inexorable (Donc, dans tous les cas : Horloge = Temps = Mort.

    • Le seul être vivant est sous l’horloge en question, il semble attendre l’heure de sa mort, dont l’incertitude est liée à l’absence des aiguilles.

  • Les autres horloges indiquent des heures différentes :

    • Chacun vit à son rythme, le temps est relatif

    • Ces horloges indiqueraient-elles l’heure de la mort de chacun, seraient-elles un élément de tombe ?

    • Serions-nous face à un cimetière de souvenirs ?

  • L’homme, seul être animé de ce document.

    • Il a une attitude résignée, soumise, avec la tête baissée, enfoncée dans les épaules, les bras ballants. Il semble attendre l’heure de sa mort, qu’il sait désormais inexorable. Il a pris conscience de la mort avec les autres horloges qui indiquent des heures précises de mort.

    • Cet homme est soumis au temps  qui passe, il est sous la pendule de sa vie.

    • Il pourrait aussi se trouver seul face à ses souvenirs, chaque horloge faisant référence à l’un de ses souvenirs épisodiques, il fait le bilan de sa vie, dont il remémore les moments les plus importants.

    • Cet homme est confronté à une grande solitude en fin de vie. « On naît, on vit et on meurt seul », disait Orson Welles, mais en rajoutant toutefois « que c’est seulement à travers l’amour et l’amitié que l’on peut créer l’illusion momentanée que nous ne sommes pas seuls ».

  • Le sol représenté sur cette photographie est asséché, désertique, il confirme la solitude et le désarroi de l’homme face au temps qui passe.

    •  Ce désert devient la métaphore de sa vie.

    • Il n’est plus qu’un homme désolé sur le lieu même de sa sépulture. Il attend son tour sans aide ni appui, seul dans l’incertitude de l’heure de sa mort.

  • L’horizon, le lointain : la métaphore du temps qui passe, jusqu’à l’infini :

    • Il est flou, il nous rappelle l’infini de la mort.

    • Il nous rappelle l’incertitude de l’avenir qui est devant nous.

    • Mais on ne saurait ignorer la ligne d’intersection, au loin, qui préfigure la mort.

This is one of my all-time (pun intended) favorite time-themed images. Here's a man who's run out of time. Here's a man who's lost track of time. Here's a man who's missing time. Here's a man who's lost himself in time. This is the man for whom time will not wait. Here's a man whose crushed under the weight of time. The symmetry is perfect and the gray scale is dramatic. I'd love to get a print of this one and frame it.
